Thermal Imaging

Thermography, also known as Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI), is a gentle, non‑invasive imaging method that helps us observe how your body is functioning by measuring natural heat patterns on the skin. There is no radiation, no contact, and no discomfort—just a safe, simple scan that captures detailed thermal images.

How it Works:

During a thermography session, a specialized infrared camera records the temperature patterns on the surface of your skin. These patterns can reveal changes in circulation, inflammation, nerve activity, and other physiological processes. Because many conditions create subtle shifts in heat within the top few millimeters of the skin, thermography can highlight areas that may need further attention.

Thermography does not image deep internal structures. Instead, it detects how deeper changes in the body may influence the surface through the micro‑circulation and nerve pathways. This makes it a valuable tool for understanding functional changes that may not yet appear on structural tests like X‑rays or ultrasounds.

Why Clinicians Use
Thermography:

When used appropriately, thermography provides objective, measurable data that can support clinical decision‑making. It can help your provider gain confidence in a diagnosis, monitor progress, or determine whether additional testing is needed. For many patients, it serves as a helpful adjunct imaging tool that complements other diagnostic methods.

Modern, Accurate,
and Reliable:

Thermal imaging technology has advanced significantly over the past few decades. Today’s systems are highly sensitive and capable of detecting temperature differences as small as one‑hundredth of a degree. Improvements in digital processing, infrared technology, and thermal stabilization allow us to capture clear, precise images that support high‑quality clinical evaluation.

Preparing For a Thermal Scan

Here are a few guidelines for preparing for a thermal scan:

  • No pregnancy or breastfeeding for the last three (3) months

  • No stimulants within TWO (2) hours of the appointment. Including

    • Caffeine

    • Nicotine

    • Steroids

  • No antibiotics for TEN (10) days prior to thermography

  • No HOT or COLD liquids on the drive to the appointment. Room temperature is fine

  • Do NOT participate in the following activities:

    • Massage

    • Reflexology

    • Exercising

    • Physical Therapy

    • Electromyography

  • Do not use any of the following the day of your thermography:

    • Deodorant

    • Lotion

    • Powder

    • Oil

    • Perfume

  • Avoid strong sunlight

  • No cold or flu symptoms

  • Do not come for a scan if you have a sunburn on your chest or the area of interest. You would need to wait until all the sunburned area has peeled off.
